Each passing day brings us closer and closer to our first game of the season. As you may have heard, we are up against Heartland this Sunday at the Dan Anyiam. More of that in the coming days, however, today’s focus is on 4 players I am tipping for big things this year. Of course, I want everyone to do well and on the very little limited knowledge I have of the new signings we have made, these are the ones I’ve seen in my 1962 Crystal ball.
Somiari Alalibo – this guy’s a rock at the back! He has already proven himself, winning the Infinix Player of the Month award last season. And when Ojo Olorunleke was out, he took the captain’s armband like he was born for it. With his experience and ability to play with different centre backs, he’s the perfect leader for our defense. Alalibo has a keen sense of anticipation, ability to read the game well and making crucial interceptions. He’s also comfortable with the ball at his feet, often starting counter-attacks with his precise passing.
Next up for me is Joseph Atule. Although last season was a bit of a letdown, it is no mystery what he is capable of. The talent is there no doubt and this season, I am backing him to come of age and show more consistency. He needs to be that boss on the pitch, like he was at Lobi Stars. We need him to unlock defenses with his creativity and skill. He’s got the speed, agility, and ball control to beat defenders, but he needs to be more clinical in front of goal.
Fatai Abdullahi. I love Fatai. This guy’s a midfield general! Strong, intelligent, and reliable. He’s been instrumental in our success before, and his return should be a massive boost for Yema. He’s got the experience and skill to control the midfield, protect our defense, and distribute the ball effectively. Abdullahi’s vision and passing range are exceptional, allowing him to dictate the tempo of the game. He’s also got a knack for scoring important goals, as we’ve seen in the past and I am expecting no less from him.
And then onto, Ekene Awazie. Ekene is all pace, trickery, and he gets into great positions. But somehow, he hasn’t quite lived up to the hype. This season, I see him upping his game. Improving his decision-making, be more clinical, and show the younger wingers how it’s done! Awazie’s got the potential to be a game-changer with his speed and agility, but he needs to work on his final product. He’s got to deliver more assists and goals to justify his place in the starting lineup.
So there you have it, my 4 for big things next season. With this also, I challenge the rest of the team – prove that my 1962 Crystal Ball needs replacement. I will be back at the end of the season to either throw my “I told You so” or eat my Humble Pie. All the best to the lads this season.
