Well, yesterday was a rollercoaster, wasn’t it? A match that started in a burst but ended with a flicker—literally. We kicked things off in full gear, lighting up the field with three first-half goals before the lights decided to go AWOL. Typical Enyimba, keeping us on our toes in more ways than one!
It all started with Ekene Awazie—who had the audacity to slice a long pass from Pascal Eze through Nasiru Sani’s defense and slot it past a helpless Kolimba Alladoum. A goal fit for the cameras, putting us firmly on the road to victory.
Not content with just a one-goal lead, we turned up the heat. Enter the new boys, Ifeanyi Ihemekwele and Kalu Nweke, both finding the back of the net after some eye-catching, mesmerizing runs down the left channel from Clinton Jephtha. Let’s just say the visitors had no answer to his tricks. By halftime, we were sitting pretty at 3-0, making it look like a walk in the park.
But oh, how quickly things can change.
The second half was less fireworks, more fire safety drill. We slowed down, creating a few half-chances but not much else. Just as we thought we’d see out a comfortable win, the stadium went dark—thanks to a power outage caused by the generator going offline. With heavy rain clouds looming and the match already starting 32 minutes late due to broadcast scheduling, the pitch had become an eerie scene.
After what seemed like ages of back-and-forth negotiations (and some weather woes), both sides agreed to shift the remainder of the match to this morning at 8am. Thankfully, there wasn’t much drama when play resumed. We saw out the game to claim all three points, moving us up to second on the table—level on points with Remo Stars and just behind Rivers United.
Was it a walkover? Maybe. Did Katsina United’s late arrival give us an edge? Absolutely. But as they say, “A win’s a win,” and we’ll take those three points with a smile, thank you very much. There’s plenty to be pleased with, like seeing Somiari “Skippo” Alalibo and Pascal “Homeboy” Eze forming a solid partnership at the heart of the defense. Though, let’s be honest, the blackout stole a bit of the show.
Looking ahead, we’ve got a trip to Ibadan on the horizon, and let’s just say we’re feeling good. Of course, there’s always room for improvement, but for now, let’s soak in the victory and leave the light-bulb moments for another time.
Oh, and in case you forgot, we’re finding out our CAF continental opponents later this afternoon. Fingers crossed for some “favorable” draws. No pressure, right?
