Enyimba Football Club secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City FC in a Nigerian Premier Football League match played this evening in Aba.

Ifeanyi Ihemekwele opened the scoring for Enyimba in the 5th minute, courtesy of Chukwudi Nwaodu’s assist. The People’s Elephant held onto their lead until Aiyeyigbe Toyeeb equalized for Ikorodu City in the 88th minute.

Just as the match seemed headed for a draw, Moses Adikwu headed in Unwana Asuquo’s cross in stoppage time, sealing Enyimba’s win.

Post-Match Reactions:

Enyimba coach, Yemi Olarenwaju, shared his thoughts on the game: “We struggled a bit, but the most important thing is that we got the job done. We played well against Tornadoes and didn’t win.”

Regarding the officiating, Olarenwaju expressed disappointment: “I can’t imagine playing at home and facing such difficulties. The referee waved off several tackles and a clear penalty. I’d rather not discuss officiating, but I wasn’t comfortable with many things today.”

On his team’s struggles, Olarenwaju attributed it to anxiety: “My players struggled due to anxiety. We’ve earned only two points from our last three games, out of nine possible points. They were eager to get things done.”

Next up for Enyimba is a trip to Yenegoa to face Bayelsa United.
