Enyimba’s unbeaten run against Bayelsa United continued with a 1-1 draw in Yenegoa on Sunday, in their NPFL Match Day 10 encounter. Ekene Awazie scored Enyimba’s goal in the 29th minute, following a swift counter-attack initiated by Ifeanyi Ihemekwele. However, Bayelsa United equalized before halftime.
Despite dominating the second half, Enyimba failed to capitalize on their chances. A potential winning goal was disallowed due to an offside flag against Ismail Sarki.
“We could have won this game but for the cheap giveaway that allowed Bayelsa to equalize,” Coach Yemi Olanrewaju Daniel said post-match. “We’ll manage the one point and focus on our next game against Remo Stars FC in Aba.”
Coach Daniel praised his team’s strategy, citing their strength in playing from the back, but lamented the execution in the final third. “They didn’t really create anything in the second half, except some long balls.”
Regarding the officiating, particularly Ismail Sarki’s disallowed goal, Daniel stated: “I don’t like discussing officiating since it’s beyond my control. The referee sees better, and they know better.”
Enyimba remains third on the log with 18 points from 10 games, three points behind leaders Remo Stars and Rivers United. The People’s Elephant hosts Remo Stars FC in Aba next Sunday.
