Enyimba continued preparations for the new season playing out a 1-0 defeat to Rivers United in Port Harcourt.
The deciding goal in the friendly came in the 66th minute, courtesy of a deflected strike from Taiwo AbdulRafiu’s free kick.
This match was particularly significant, as it pitted Enyimba coach Yemi Olarenwaju against his former boss, Finidi George, now at the helm of Rivers United. Olarenwaju was an assistant to George during Enyimba’s triumphant 2021/2022 season, making this a fascinating tactical showdown.
Both sides had their share of dominance and chances in this glorified friendly but struggle to find the back of the net. However, AbdulRafiu’s moment proved to be the difference-maker, securing the victory on the day as the boys got some more minutes under their belt.
It is still early days but hopefully the Enyimba attack gets it act together and fast too – Heartland awaits this weekend.
