Good morning, Enyimba faithful!
Lately, it feels like we’re trapped in the plot of some throwback books I remember well—One Week, One Trouble and More Tales From Shakespeare. Both would make a fitting title for this two-week stretch we’ve endured! It’s like the dark clouds settled in, ordered some popcorn, and are in no rush to leave.
Our latest twist? A nice, hefty ₦1 million fine handed down yesterday evening, all for something that could’ve been avoided—personal comments spilling onto our official social media platform. One can’t help but wonder if we’ve forgotten the cardinal rule of club PR: the media director should be as alert as a referee at a penalty spot, making sure everything released is in line with club standards. Yet, here we are, with no media director on deck to keep things from going off the rails. And what do we get for that oversight? A fine as high as an Enyimba goal celebration!
For those in football, here’s the golden rule: you don’t air officiating grievances on social media. There are official channels for that—a formal complaint carries weight and can lead to real action. Meanwhile, ranting online only brings fines and stirs up frustration from fans who don’t want to lose faith in the league. If even the participants seem to lack confidence, how will outsiders ever take our league seriously enough to back it?
Now, I’m not here as a league spokesperson, and that’s why I’d strongly urge the league to take complaints seriously, investigate thoroughly, and call out wrongdoers, not just clubs. Still, at the end of the day, we’re on the hook for that ₦1 million. When it rains, it pours, right? So, let’s rally and keep Enyimba in our prayers—there’s been more than enough drama to last the season.
And as if that weren’t enough, we’re now facing the loss of Eze Ekwutoziem and Ani Ozoemena for the next game, both called up to the Super Eagles B-team camp for a match that will happen in December! Who arranges these things? Maybe the league should have a window for their camp but that will further elongate the duration of the league.
With all that said, here’s hope in the mould of a bit of good news, we have settled Chijioke Akuneto’s ₦1.2million debt, as well as what is due Gateway United. On Stephen Chukwude’s case, we’ve defrayed it with a ₦1.5million payment with an agreement to pay in installments every 2 months. Now that’s cheering news. We’ll have the full compliment of the squad, bar Ozoemena and Ekwutoziem, for the game in Yenegoa against Bayelsa United. Hopefully, we’ll win again like we did last season.
Back tomorrow with more cheering news, hopefully.
